Luminescence is the dynamic septet led by pianist and bandleader James Austin Jr., formed to celebrate the music and spirit of jazz legend Dr. Barry Harris. Luminescence delivers swinging interpretations of Barry’s compositions alongside tasteful arrangements of standards and other tunes associated with him. Luminescence has been featured at major venues, festivals, and universities including recent performances at Dizzy’s (Jazz at Lincoln Center), New Tide Festival (Netherlands), and the Institute of Jazz Studies (Rutgers University). Luminescence has performed concerts with an impressive list of special guests such as saxophonist Charles McPherson, vocalist Nnenna Freelon, bassist David Williams, and drummer Kenny Washington.
