Veteran tenor saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Tad Shull brings two generations of experience on New York’s jazz scene to every note. He’s a master of the classic tenor sound, fusing hard-swinging tradition with a richly orchestral approach to the horn. Shull carries forward his instrument’s storied lineage with powerful tone, deep knowledge of the repertoire, and unpretentious artistry—a must-hear for anyone exploring the heart of mainstream and post-bop saxophone. Critics and listeners alike have acknowledged his musical integrity and emotional depth. Born in Westport, CT, Shull landed in NYC to soak in the resurgent swing tradition at Midtown clubs like Jimmy Ryan’s and Eddie Condon’s during the 1980s. Since then he has been a fixture in New York’s leading venues, across the US, and abroad, and has made a number of well known recordings as leader or co-leader, notably "Deep Passion" and "In the Land of the Tenor." A new release on Criss Cross Jazz is set for Fall 2026.
